Royal - step closer to league title
Royal College kept their unbeaten record intact by overcoming
Isipatana by 22 points to 3 on Saturday at the Royal Sports Complex to
remain on top of the points table in the Schools under 20 segment one
'A' Division League Tournament for the President's Trophy.
The lads from Reid Avenue who were held to a 5-3 lead at the
breather, went on the offensive in the last 20 minutes helped by their
power-packed 'eight' to score a convincing win with their forwards Hamza
Hassan, Shehan Pathirana and Kalana Amarasinghe scoring three out of the
four tries.
Once again they were let down by their place kicker Mushin Faleel who
gave another pathetic display missing an easy penalty and converting
only one try. A superb second half rally by S. Thomas' helped them to
overcome defending champions Kingswood by 14 points to nil at Bogambara
to remain in second position.
After a blank scoresheet at the breather the Thomians came back
storming in the next 40 minutes to score two tries through No. 8
Rajindra Gunasekera and centre Anuruddha Wilwara, who dashed through
over 70 metres to fall over for a glorious try.
A superlative display by strongly built winger Kennon Armstrong and
two fine tries by fly half Kanchana Ramanayake enabled Trinity College,
Kandy to beat Dharmaraja by 34 points to 27 at Bogambara on Friday after
trailing 14-13 at the breather.
Armstrong played a key role in their success by scoring a try,
converting three and firing across a penalty which gave him a personal
tally of 14 points and propelled Trinity into third place in the points
table surpassing Kingswood and Isipatana. |
