Rs. 8m drainage system for People's Park

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC ) has taken steps to initiate a
storm water disposal improvement project at a cost of Rs. 8 million,
covering the vicinity of People's Park, Gunasinghepura.
The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has agreed to provide funds and
the whole drainage system will be rehabilitated under the project.
The MoU was signed between the CMC and UDA at a meeting presided by
Municipal Commissioner Bhadrani Jayawardana last week.

Explaining the project, CMC Water Supply and Drainage Division Head
S.G. V. D.H. Gunasekera told the Daily News that most of the building
complexes specially those with basement facilities would need their own
pumping equipment.
"But after studying the problem that had existed for over 20 years, a
decision was taken by the UDA and the CMC to rehabilitate the drainage
system as an improved infrastructure facility.
Gunasekera said the tender has been called to select a prospective
tenderer, and priority will be given to a public sector construction
organisation. Construction will commence thereafter.
He stressed the importance of a perfect town planning specially in
establishing large building complexes for a sustainable city
development. |
