Indian HC team visits Brandix Green Plant
International interest in the Brandix Green factory at Seeduwa
remains high, as evidenced by the steady stream of visitors to this
unique eco-friendly manufacturing complex.
The world’s highest-rated environment-friendly apparel factory led by
delegates from the Indian High Commission and the Indian Foreign Service
Institute in Colombo visited the Brandix Green Plant recently.

The group included Dean of the Foreign Service Institute of the
Ministry of External Affairs of India Ajai Choudhry, Counsellor Santosh
Jha - (Economic and Commercial) and First Secretary (Political) of the
Indian High Commission B. Shyam.
Brandix Director AJ Johnpillai said, “We are honoured that our Green
Plant continues to generate much interest and is seen as an example for
manufacturers in the region and other parts of the world. Visits of this
nature help project Sri Lanka’s image as a manufacturing location that
is committed to environmental best practice.”
The Brandix Green Factory at Seeduwa is the first apparel
manufacturing facility in the world to be rated Platinum under the LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating
System of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The factory which is
the Group’s lead manufacturing plant for Marks and Spencer, achieved a
score of 76 (12 points higher than the 64 required for Platinum status)
on the 85-point LEED certification system, setting a global benchmark
for low energy consumption, water conservation, solid waste management
and low carbon emissions.
The Brandix Eco Centre was adjudged the National Winner for Sri Lanka
at the Energy Globe Awards presented by the Energy Globe Foundation in
April in Prague, Czech Republic. The environment-friendly indicators
achieved by the Brandix Eco Centre also resulted in the Group being
named one of three nominees for the Energy Globe World Award in the
‘Air’ category.
The pioneer of the concept of ‘total solutions’ in Sri Lanka’s
