More benefits for pensioners

The Government will simultaneously increase the salaries of public servants as well as pensioners, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said.

Over 500, 000 pensioners will stand to benefit Dr. Amunugama said.

The Minister addressing the eighth Annual General Meeting of Public Service Pensioners' Trust Fund last Thursday said "Government service should be people friendly and free from corruption and malpractice". "They should clearly understand that they are accountable for every cent they are paid from the public purse," Dr. Amunugama said.

The Minister said certain amendments had been added to the W&OP scheme adding more favourable provisions to the pension minute, by the present Government. They are specially meant for teachers and Forces personnel.
