Iran to arbiter poll results
Iran: An Iranian Guardian Council announced the creation of a
special commission to arbitrate complaints regarding the presidential
elections.
The Commission integrated by six renowned political, social and
religious figures in the country should prepare a report on the
elections of June 12, which resulted in street protests in Teheran and
other localities.
Both former contenders have 24 hours to name their delegates for this
council who will supervise a recount of about 10 percent of ballots,
indicated Kadkhodaei to canal PRESS TV while Mohsen Resaei, third
contender defeated by Ahmadinejad, decided to withdraw accusations of
alleged fraud. Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, won the election
but demonstrations of discontent were promoted by his main rival, former
prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi.
According to the spokesman of the Guardian Council (GC) Abbas-Ali
Kadkhodaei, the main electoral authority of the Persian nation that the
commission will also count with representatives of Mousavi and Mehdi
Karroubi, the other candidate who contests the results.
Former chancellor and current advisor of foreign affairs of the
supreme leader, Ali Akbar Velayati and former parliament president
Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel, as well as the dean of the Law Faculty of the
Shahid Beheshti Goudarz Eftekhar-Jahromi University are members of the
commission.
Other members are chief justice Qurban-Ali Dorri-Nadjafabadi, deputy
Mohammad Hassan Abutorabi, and the representative of the supreme guide
of the Martyrƒ?(tm)s Foundation, Mohammad-Hassan Rahimian, among others.
