Norochcholai power project second, third stages:

Lanka, China to ink deal

The agreement on the second and third stages of the Norochcholai Coal Power Project will be signed today between the Sri Lankan and Chinese Governments.

These two stages of the project with 600 megawatt capacity at a cost of US$ 891 million will be completed in 2013. The first stage of the project commenced in 2006 with 300 megawatt and will be completed next year.

This coal power project is being constructed in terms of strict environmental rules and regulations, Ceylon Electricity Board sources said.
