DSI Super Sports - VB begins on July 11

The eleventh annual DSI Super Sports All Island Schools Volleyball Championship organised by Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation alongwith Sri Lanka Schools VBA and Education Department is scheduled to commence on July 11 and will continue till the last week of August.

These details were disclosed at the press briefing held at Hotel Taj Samudra on Monday.

The tournament will be conducted in four age groups under 12, 14, 16 and, 18 for Boys and Girls and staged on three different levels - District.

Provincial and National level. The district level tournament is due to conclude on July 19 and the next stage Provincial Level on July 25, which are to be played in 22 districts.

President SLVB addressing the media thanked the sponsors and especially the media for their commitment in promoting the national sport.

He said that the tournament which began in 1999 with 198 teams have got past the 4500 mark.

This was mainly due to the media coverage done during the past decade.

The DSI Super Sports tourney served as the base for young sports stars to make their way to the national team.

During the past decade 40 spikers who competed in this tourney from their young age reached the national level and represented the country in both categories men and women. This year the organiser expect the number of teams to exceed the 5000 mark which was the target set by the sponsors to be achieved in the year 2012.

With this achievement the sponsors too have made the mark.

All in all over 60,000 children will be engaged in this massive sporting event.
