Amarapura Nikaya higher ordination ceremony

The annual higher ordination ceremony of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Nikaya will be held at the Attanagalu Oya Seemamalakaya near the Sri Subodharama Maha Viharaya on June 27 at 2 p.m. under the patronage of Most Ven. Ambalangoda Sri Sumangala Maha Nayaka Thera.

A batch of 20 samanera bhikkhus receiving higher ordination will be conducted to the venue in a procession.

A highlight will be a Sanghikadana to 100 bhikkhus to transfer merit on departed state leaders including late Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and war heroes.

Awards ceremony

The awards ceremony of the Gamini Dissanayake Institute of Technology and Vocational studies, Nuwara Eliya will be held at The Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya on June 26, 2009 Friday from 3 p.m.

Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda will be the chief guest and CEO/Managing Director, EW Information Systems (Pvt) Ltd Sanjeewa Wickremanayake will be the guest of honour.

Free seminar on graphic designing

The Sri Lanka Institute of Printing under the Mass Media and Information Ministry has organised a free one day workshop style seminar on Computer Graphic Designing.

The seminar will be held on July 05, 2009 Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. at Sri Lanka Institute of Printing, Government Printing Department, No. 118, Dr. Danister de Silva Mawatha, Colombo 08.

Muhurath ceremony

The Muhurath ceremony of Rohan Veliwita’s maiden movie Susima will be held at Sovereign Hotel, Rajagiriya, on June 26 at 10.12 a.m.

Krishnamurti talk

A recorded public talk on ‘How does one learn about oneself?’ delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at Anula Nursery School, 310, High Level Road, Colombo 6 on Sunday, June 28 at 9.45 a.m.

The event is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.

Annual session and AGM

The 49th annual general meeting of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) will be held on June 26 at 9 a.m. at Hotel Janaki, Colombo 5. The keynote address will be delivered by Director SLIDA W. M. Bandusena. This year over 300 members are expected to participate at this event.

Annual convention

The Annual Convention of the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF) will be held on June 27 at Hotel Ranmuthu, Colombo 3.

The special ceremonial session will begin at 9 a.m. Resettlement and Disaster Relief Minister Rishard Badiudeen will be the chief guest. JVP Parliamentary Group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake MP and Kabeer Hashim MP for Kegalle District will be guests of honour. Ambassadors of Muslim countries and special invitees will be present.


Sri Lanka Library Association will present the 7th Annual National Conference of Library and Information Science (NACLIS) on June 25 at ‘On Golden Pond’ of Hotel Taj Samudra at 9 p.m. Chief guest will be Professor Emeritus Chandra Gunawardene. The event will host paper presentation on A2K and dialogue session with eminent professionals in academic, legal, IPR, ICT, banking and LIS fields.

Free clinic

A free diabetes and heart disease awareness program will be held on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at Healthy Life Clinic, Colombo 3.
