IPM action plan to support national effort
The National HR Conference commenced:
Human Resource Management has emerged as a specialized discipline
where those who are interested in pursing a career in Human Resource
Management need to develop their knowledge base and competencies in a
systematic manner, said President, Institute of Management (IPM), Lalith
Wijethunga.
He was speaking at The National HR Conference which commenced
yesterday. It was organized by The Institute of Personal Management (IPM).
He said,” We at IPM hope that an HR practitioner becomes a corporate
leader and thereafter a nation builder. “The role as a nation builder is
of critical importance in view of the historic phase our motherland is
proceeding through. Consequent to the eradication of terrorism after
three decades, we are on the threshold of a new era of development and
national integration.
As HR professionals, we need to find ways and means of contributing
to this national effort,” he said.
“Our Institute will implement an action plan to support this national
effort. Our focus is three-fold. At present we have over 300,000
internally displaced people.
Once they settle down in their villages they need skills development
and psychological back up to overcome their traumatic experience and
also there are many disabled soldiers and families of soldiers who were
killed. They need to be gainfully employed to maintain themselves.
For this purpose measures should be taken to enhance their
employability. Some professional organizations have already set up their
branches in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
To manage academic and professional activities and CSR challenges the
Institute proposes to establish centres in these provinces,”
The National HR conference always focuses on the current HR issue of
critical importance at organizational as well as national level.
This year’s conference will endeavour to stimulate thinking and find
answers to this global crisis through the people factor.
The chief main features of the conference are HR service providers’
exhibition which would exhibit many products and services to enhance the
effectiveness of the HR function. The conference concludes today.
