The Navy during search operations in Illangathurai, Mohottivaram
Thursday evening recovered 82mm mortar bombs.
Navy spokesman Captain D.P.K. Dassanayake said a Naval intelligence
team conducting a search operation unearthed the 82 mm mortar bombs
buried in Illangathurai, Mohottivaram on Thursday around 4.30pm.
The naval troops uncovered 513 of 82 mm mortar bombs, 270 of 82 mm
mortar cartridges, 22 expelling charges, 24 RPG bombs, 150 pouches and
three LTTE man packs carefully packed and buried in three plastic cans.
"We suspect that the arms' cache had been hidden by the LTTE prior to
fleeing during the recently concluded humanitarian operations conducted
by the Security Forces to liberate the East," he added.
