Socialist People's Front seminar

The first seminar in a series of seminars organized by the Socialist People's Front will be held on June 21 (Sunday) at the National Library Auditorium under the patronage Socialist People's Front Chief Secretary Raja Collure.

Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Minister DEW Gunasekara, Minister Rajitha Senarathne, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party Secretary Ranjith Navarathne and S. Siddarthan of the EPRLF will participate.


Rhythms of Harmony

'Rhythms of Harmony', a musical extravaganza presented by the Parent-Teacher Association of St. Lawrence's Convent, Colombo 6 will be staged at St. Joseph's College Auditorium on June 20 (Today) from 6.30 p.m. The event is a package containing musical memories for all ages plus dances. Stars Annesley, Nadini Premadasa and Centigrade will perform. Proceeds are in aid of St. Lawrence's Convent Building Fund.


Remembering Dr. Jayasuriya

The 79th birth commemoration meeting of Prof. Dr. Anton Jayasuriya will be held at the Anton Jayasuriya Memorial Hospital Clinic, 08, International Buddhist Centre Road, Colombo 06 on June 20 (today) at 5.30 p.m.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Carlo Fonseka.


General Arts qualifying exam

The Kelaniya University General Arts Qualifying Examination (External) 2008 (Old Syllabus) will be held at the KCP Hall, Kadawata from June 22 to July 2.

University Registrar W. M. Karunaratne said due to the closure of the University, arrangements have been made to conduct this External Degree Examination at the KCP Hall, Kadawata.

Admission forms indicating the examination dates have been sent to candidates.


Church feast

The annual feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus' Church, Mattumagala, Ragama will be held on June 21 (Sunday) followed by procession.

Vespers will be sung on June 20 (today) at 7.30 p.m.


Ekamath Eka Rateka at Savoy

Sanath Gunatilleke's maiden movie Ekamath Eka Rateka will be transferred from Majestic cinema to Savoy 2 from June 20. It is subtitled in french and will be screened till June 25.


Student heroes' day

The National Student Heroes Day (Jathika Shishya Weera Dinaya) Commemoration Ceremony organised by the Socialist Students Union will be held at the Public Library Auditorium, Colombo on June 20 (today) at 3 p.m.

The memorial lecture will be delivered by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva.


Madhu feast in August

The annual feast of the Madhu Church will be held ceremonially in August.

The Government will provide security , health and other facilities to devotees participating in the feast on the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa MP, said Ports and Aviation Deputy Minister Sarath Gunaratne.

This decision was taken after a meeting with Mannar Bishop Most Rev. Rayappu Joseph, Galle Bishop Harold Anthony and other leaders.


Meelad-un-Nabi in Kattankudi

The National Meelad-un-Nabi function to commemorate Prophet Muhammad's birthday will be held in Kattankudi in 2010 on President Mahinda Rajapaksa's direction, a President's Media Unit release said.


Road closure

The Kegalle- Avissawella- Hatton road will be closed from 10 p.m to midnight today as the annual Esela Perehera of the Susilodaya Rajamaha Viharaya of Dehiowita will parade the streets, Police Headquarters said.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during this period.


Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama addresses the Oxford Union at a seminar on Post Conflict Developments in Sri Lanka. This seminar was attended by a large gathering of Oxford professors and students. Also in the picture are Niraj Deva, MP of the European Parliament, Dilan Fernando, President of the Oxford Sri Lanka Society and the President of the Oxford Union.
