Nod for TNA to contest Northern Polls

The Defence Ministry granted green light to Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to carry out political campaigning in the Jaffna district to contest the Local Government election in the Northern Province.

According to TNA sources, they received permission from the Defence Ministry on Thursday afternoon to carry out political activities in Jaffna in connection with the election.

Two TNA MPs flew to Jaffna yesterday morning to nominate candidates to contest on the TNA list in the Jaffna district.

"Mavai Senathiraja and Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam have left for Jaffna to select the TNA candidates who will be contesting the Local Government election in the Jaffna district," sources added.

The TNA have already submitted its nomination list for the Vavuniya district.
