June 22 to 28: National Food Week

The Government has declared June 22 to 28, 2009 as the National Food
Week to encourage people to cultivate and face the world's food crisis.
The National Food Week opening ceremony will be held on June 22 at
Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy under the patronage of Agriculture
Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
The aim of the National Food Week program is to strengthen the Api
Vawamu- Rata Nagamu program (Let us Cultivate and Uplift the Nation). A
number of programs have been organized all over the country to mark
National Food Week under the theme 'Let Us Encourage Local Food
Production and Food Consumer.'
Another opening ceremony will be held on June 22 at the Agriculture
Development and Agrarian Services Ministry under the patronage of
Agriculture Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara. A workshop also be held on
June 22 at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training
Institute.
