Maldivian leader praises President for eradicating terrorism

Maldivian President Mohamed Hasheed who met President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday, expressed his thanks and appreciation for defeating terrorism that was becoming a threat not only to Sri Lanka but to the Maldives and South Asia as a whole.

President Rasheed met President Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Anuradhapura yesterday when he expressed these views, a Presidential Media Unit press release said.

The Maldivian President said he was happy that President Rajapaksa was able to defeat the terrorist group that had disrupted peace in the country for three decades.

President Rajapaksa thanking the Maldivian leader said the terrorists had killed thousands of innocent civilians and destroyed public and private property and it was the intent of his Government to speedily rehabilitate the war affected regions and bring back peace and development to the country.
