Religious ceremony for war heroes

A ceremony to bestow merit on war heroes and Armed Forces personnel organised by the Young Men's Buddhist Association of Wadduwa will be held at the YMBA hall Wadduwa on June 21 at 4.30 p.m.

Ven. Pooja Tebuwana Piyananda Thera, Parivanadipathi Granthkara Tebuwana and the Registrar of Dodangoda Sasanaraksaka Mandalaya will deliver a Special dhamma desana.

The Bodhi Pooja will commence at the Sri Lankaramaya temple Wadduwa at 6.00 p.m.

The Gilanpasa perahera will leave the YMBA hall at Wadduwa.

Development week in Kandy

Kandy District Secretary Gotabhaya Jayaratne has declared an accelerated development week in the Kandy District from June 15 to 21.

He said it has been planned to complete all development projects earmarked under Jathika Saviya, Gama Neguma, Decentralised Budget Scheme, Samurdhi and Central Provincial Council programs during this week

Ayurveda efficiency Bar exam

The Government Ayurveda Medical Officers' Efficiency Bar Examination will be held at the C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Borella on June 27.

The admission cards and timetables have been posted to the candidates and those who had not received them should call over or contact the Ayurveda Department Examination Unit on 2745962 or 2896911-12, said Ayurveda Commissioner Ramani Gunawardene.

Cuban musical evening

A musical evening commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 81st birth anniversary of Ernesto Che Guevara will be held on June 13 at 4.30 pm at the Russian Centre, in Colombo 7.

Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba Nirsia Castro Guevara will be the Guest of Honour and Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunewardene the Chief Guest.

Dr. Badi-ud-din Mahmud commemoration

A ceremony to commemorate former Education Minister Al-Haj Dr. Badi-ud-Din Mahmud will be held on June 17 at 4.00 p.m. at the Nagarodaya Centre 155 A, Baseline Road, Borella.

The ceremony is organised by the All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts (ACUMLYF).

Health Care and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva will be the Chief Guest. ACUMLYF's National President Al-Haj Rasheed M. Imthiyaz will preside.

Chief Sangha Nayaka of Colombo Nawakorale and former Deputy Principal of Ananda College Ven. Pandit Madampagama Assasi Thera will deliver the keynote address on "Towards an Equitable Society for Peaceful Co-existence".

Pakistan gifts ambulances

The Pakistan Government through its High Commission in Colombo, gifted three fully equipped and high-roof ambulances to the Health Ministry.

High Commissioner Shaheen A. Gilani handed over the keys of the ambulances to Healthcare and Nutrition. Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

High Commissioner Gilani said the gift of ambulances was only a token of the high esteem and affection of the Government and people of Pakistan for the Government and people of Sri Lanka.

Obtains PhD

Rajinda Senaratne has been conferred with Doctorate in Philosophy in Computer Science by the University of Melbourne in Australia. He studied at Nalanda College, Colombo and obtained BSc and MSc at the University of Moratuwa before he migrated to Australia to pursue his studies.

He assumed duties in his first appointment in the Engineering Department of a leading company in Brisbane. He is the son of Rosmand and Dr. Lakshmi Senaratne.

Higher Education Ministry Secretary Malini Peiris left for USA to follow a course on Leaders in development - Managing Political and Economic Change at the Harvard Kennedy School, USA.

Certificates for land owners

The Land and Land Development Ministry will survey all lands in the country to issue ownership certificates in place of complicated deeds under the Bimsaviya program.

The inauguration ceremony of issuing certificates for land owners in the Homagama Divisional Secretariat will be held today under the patronage of Western Provincial Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

UNPer joins SLFP

H.M. Ilangasinghe, UNP media secretary in the Horowpothana electorate has renounced his UNP membership and joined the SLFP. He received the SLFP membership card from North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake at the chief ministry office yesterday.

Ilangasinghe who is an English Assistant teacher has been a UNP activist since the age of 18.

Badur Mowlood

The recital of Badur Mowlood, will be conducted by Al Haj Moulavi M.T. Hillurudeen (Falahi) and Al Haj Moulavi A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) from June 14 after Magrib prayers and will continue until Isha prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque.

A variety entertainment presented by St. John’s Girls School, Panadura will be held on Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14 from 4 p.m. at Keselwatta Auditorium, Panadura.
