Improperly dressed MP ordered out

Thangeswari

TNA Parliamentarian Thangeswari Kathiraman was ordered to withdraw immediately from Parliament for the remainder of the day yesterday as her dress was improper and unparliamentary.

Deputy Serjeant-at-Arms Naren Fernando ordered her to withdraw immediately from the chamber after she was seen attired in a Salwar Kameez dress which is inappropriate with the Parliament’s dress code for female members. According to Parliamentary tradition, female MPs are required to dress in sari. Having explained the situation, the Deputy Serjeant-at-Arms accompanied her out of the chamber.
