Over 6000 doctor vacancies in Bangladesh

BANGLADESH: A total of 6,861 posts of doctors and 2,056 posts of nurses are now lying vacant in Bangladesh's health sector, the national news agency BSS reported quoted an official as saying on Tuesday.

Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad made the remarks when answering a question at the parliament session here on Tuesday on behalf of Health and Family Welfare Minister AFM Ruhal Haque, who was absent at that time in parliament. Meanwhile, Health Minister Haque later told the parliament that there are 12,382 physicians in the country under the Health Department and 819 doctors under the Family Planning Department, the BSS said.

Reiterating the government's firm commitment to reach better health service to the common people, Haque said there is a dearth in the number of doctors, nurses and health workers in the health sector.
