Exhibition of paintings
A solo exhibition of paintings by Harsha Jayawardene will be held at
the Lionel Wendt on June 12, 13 and 14 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Harsha who has presented several exhibitions winning accolades both
here and abroad is a distinguished pupil of veteran painter S. H. Sarath.
He is an old boy of Carey College, Colombo.
NSB pirith pinkama
The National Savings Bank Bambalapitiya Branch has organised an all
night pirith pinkama at its premises on June 13 to mark its 30th
anniversary and transfer merit on war heroes and police personnel who
have sacrificed their lives to defend the nation and eliminate terrorism
from the country.
Praise and worship
A special service of “Praise and Worship” will be held at which the
needs of the congregation will be individually taken up in prayer this
Sunday, June 14 at 10.30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living
Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha (adjoining the BMICH), Colombo 7.
Blood donation
St. Clare’s College, Colombo 6, has organized a blood donation
campaign to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the school on Saturday
June 13 from 8 am to 3 pm at the school main hall.
Religious lecture
A religious lecture will be conducted on Sunday, June 14 by Moulavi
Al Haj A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) after Isha prayers at the Nawala Mosque.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Group of 93/94 of St. Peter’s
College, Colombo 4 will be held at the College. Rev. Sister Flora Hall
(Old Library) at 6 p.m. on June 12.
Kataragama Esala Perahera begins on July 22

The first ritual of the Kataragama Esala Perahera Kapsituvime
mangalya was held on Monday at the auspicious time.
The perahera will commence on July 22 and the final grand event the
Maha perahera will be held on August 5 and the diya kepime mangalya will
held on August 6, the administrative officer of the Kataragama Devalaya
W Gunasena told the Daily News yesterday.
During Poson poya a large number of devotees from different parts of
the country worshipped the Kataragama and this year’s Esala festival
will bring in a large gathering of pilgrims as there is peace in the
country.
Already the Kataragama Basnayaka Nilame Shashindra Rajapaksa has
given instructions to Government officials to provide all facilities for
the devotees during the Esala season, he said. The Dansela in front of
the Kataragama office will also function as usual.
Special bus services have been arranged during the Kataragama
pilgrimage season.
Special pooja
A special pooja for the deities to express the gratitude of all Sri
Lankans for being able to defeat terrorism and to invoke the blessings
of Sri Dedimunda deity on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the people of
Sri Lanka would be held at the historic Dedimunda Devale, Alutnuwara on
June 11, 12 and 13.
The pooja had been organized by the Vimal Geeganage Foundation.
Series of Pinkam
The Buddhist Association of the Sri Lanka Police will hold a series
of pinkam to bestow merits on Police war heroes and invoke blessings on
the disabled police personnel at regional police divisions on June 13
and 14.
These religious events will be attended by members of war heroes
families of all religious faiths at temples, kovils and mosques.
State Television Awards
The State Television Awards ceremony organised by the Cultural
Affairs Department under the directions of the Cultural Affairs and
National Heritage Ministry will be held at the BMICH, Colombo on June 10
at 6 p.m. for the fourth consecutive year.
Fifty six awards will be made at this ceremony in respect of 21
different sectors.
A special award will be made to D. B. Nihalsinghe this year in
appreciation of the services rendered by him for the progress of the
television sector.
A souvenir will also be launched to mark the occasion, states a press
release by the Cultural Affairs Department.
Jummah prayers
The Nawala Jummah Mosque has arranged to conduct Jummah prayers on
June 12 by Prof. Dr. Moulavi H. Salahudeen JP, Chief Imam, Kandy Hanafi
Jumma Masjid, Director Islamic Centre, Muslim Register and Founder
Independent International Islamic Missionary, Sri Lanka.
Green Life Adventures launch today
Green Life Adventures a newly formed company promoting
adventure-based corporate training, youth leadership programs and
adventure-based holidays will have its launch today (11) at the premises
of Gandhara on Stratford Avenue, Colombo 6.
Their services are focused at both the corporate sector in Sri Lanka
and overseas as well as to promoting adventure-based holidays in
locations including Kithulgala, Kalpitiya, Bentota, Thulhiriya,
Avissavela and Mahaweli River.
