Now at Dehiwela Zoo:

Smallest crocodile on earth

The Dehiwela Zoological Gardens has become the proud owner of the smallest type of crocodile in the world known as the dwarf crocodile.

These three crocodiles have come to Dehiwela Zoo from the Leipzig Zoo in Germany under the Animal Exchange Program. The crocodiles were exchanged for a pair of giant squirrel from Sri Lanka.

This dwarf crocodile is a native of Africa and lives in water. It grows up to 1 1/2 metres in length and is just seven inches at the time of birth. Meanwhile, 15 albino snakes were born at the Zoo a few days ago. Head of the Zoo's Reptile Section, R. Peiris said.
