Children plant to mark environment day

World Environment Day was celebrated at the Child Development Centre
(Girls), Rukmale jointly organised by the Australian High Commission,
Legal Aid Commission (LAC) and the Rotary Club Colombo West.
The event was celebrated by the Children of the Centre by planting
trees in the compound.
All the countries of the world have been celebrating World
Environment Day since 1972. The planet be divided into countries and
protected individually when it comes to Global Warming. Climate change,
depletion of the Ozone layer or the degradation of bio diversity.
Environmental degradation affects humanity. Hence the significance of
the World Environment Day, said the Legal Aid Commission (LAC) Chairman
S.S. Wijeratne.
This year the Australian High Commission, the Rotary Club Colombo
West and Rukmal Maha Vidyalaya joined hands with the Child Development
Centre at Rukmal of the Child Protection Society of Sri Lanka to
celebrate the event by planting of trees and conducting green art
competitions and games.
