President to steer country towards righteous society

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared that in the same way he fulfilled his duty by the Motherland by eradicating terrorism from its soil he would also take upon the duty of steering the country towards a righteous society.

The President made this observation at the opening of the Sithulpawwa Poson celebrations on Saturday. President Rajapaksa noted that the Sithulpawwa Rajamahaviharaya was a centre that was very close to the Buddhists of the country and that in the future, he would make it a focus of worship for those belonging to other faiths as well.

He said his Government has already taken the responsibility of creating a generation who would offer due respect to the Maha Sangha as well as other religions.

The President noting that he had to contend with various hostile forces during the liberation of the country and added that he derived strength from the people and the Maha Sangha to overcome these obstacles.
