Ahmadinejad leads Iran poll
Iran: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad leads the Iran electoral
campaign, followed closely by reformist candidate Mehdi Karroubi,
confirmed a survey Sunday.
The survey by the Young Journalists Club interviewed 30,000 persons
and showed Ahmadinejad, representative of the principalist or
conservative tendency, dominates in a large part of the country but did
not reveal the exact numbers of advantage.
The consultation assures that Karroubi, a Muslim cleric and former
parliament president surpasses Mir Hossein Moussavi, who tried to gain
favor of the 46.2 million voters with language aimed at promoting womens
rights.
Karroubi stressed employment, welfare and broad economic plans as the
core of his electoral platform.
A previous survey by Ayandeh News gave an advantage of four points to
Moussavi above those of the current Head of State, at least in the 10
largest cities of the Persian nation, including Teheran.
The tenth presidential elections of the Islamic republic will be held
on June 12 and, according to authorities of the Ministry of the Interior
and Chancellery 36 voting centers will be set up in the United States
for national residents there.
According to sources since Friday is a working day in the United
States, the voting period will be prolonged for Iranian emigres living
there.
