Victory parade to mark victory over terrorism
The nation will celebrate the hard fought victory over terrorism with
a grand National Victory Parade at Galle Face Green today presided over
by President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the
Armed Forces.
The event organised by the Public Administration and Home Affairs
Ministry will be attended by Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake,
Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara, Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Ministers,
Parliamentarians, Defence Secretary, Commanders of the Army, Navy and
Air Force, IGP and the Director General of the Civil Defence Force.
The public will also be allowed to witness the event. The public who
wish to witness it should meet at the Lake House roundabout by 6.30 a.m.
today to be taken in buses to the venue.
On this occasion, the Tri-service Commanders will officially hand
over a scroll to the President, conveying the message of the conclusion
of the North East war against terrorism and the liberation and
re-unification of the whole country under a single flag.
The President will also address the nation and the event will be
broadcast live on television and radio. All Brigade Commanders and Armed
Forces personnel who were engaged in the war will participate in the
military parade. |
