Southern Ranaviru Day

The Southern Province National War Heroe’s Day (Ranaviru Day) will be observed on June 5.

Governor Southern Province Dr. Kumari Balasuriya will be the Chief Guest at the remembrance program at the Ranaviru Statue, near the bus stand, Galle in the morning of June 5. Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva and Ministers and members of SP will participate.


Krishnamurti talk

A recorded public talk on “can our minds being in disorder create order?” delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at the study centre, Beddagana, Duwa Road, Kotte on Sunday, June 7 at 10.30 a.m.

The event is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.


Book launch

Kanthi Wijetunge’s latest book “Divimaga Rala Athara” based on the experiences gained by women in true life will be released at a ceremony at the National Library and Documentation Services Board auditorium on June 5 at 3.30 p.m. Prof (Mrs) Kusuma Karunaratne will preside. Dr. Pranneth Abeysundara and Jayantha Rukmani Siriwardena will be the guest speakers.


YMCA Founders Day

YMCA founders day will be observed on June 6th the world over.

The Sri Lanka YMCA will conduct flag week from June 6 to 13 and the 1st flag will be given to Social Services and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Lional Premasiri.

There will be special programs by the local YMCAs with Churches, Schools and Various Institutions.


Infant’s body found in well: Mom arrested

The body of a five-month-old infant girl was recovered by the Gokarella police from a well in the area following information given by public.

The alleged mother of the infant was arrested. She was to be produced before the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate. Investigations are continuing.
