Railway bank service promotional program
A program aimed at taking the Lankaputhra Development Bank (LDB) to
the village folk was jointly launched with the Sri Lanka Railway
Department recently.
The special promotional program was launched in the train that left
for Kandy at 10.30 a.m., creating awareness about the activities of the
Bank at railway stations along the route and among the railway commuters
on this day. Chairman of the Bank, S Sarath de Silva feels that this
move would create an opportunity to take the services offered by the
Lankaputhra Development Bank to the rural folk, thus also fulfilling the
objectives of the Bank.
The Railway Banking Service is to be implemented under five stages;
discussions in this regard are currently being held with the Railway
Department.
The advice and guidance provided by the General Manager of Railways,
Dr. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan proved invaluable in the successful
implementation of the first stage. Steps are currently underway to
obtain the approval and advice of the Central Bank for the continuation
of the project.
The program was launched on April 3 to coincide with the first
anniversary of the opening of the Kandy branch of the LDB. The Acting
General Manager of Lankaputhra Development Bank Ranjith Dissanayake,
Chief Risk and Operations Officer Ravi Dassanayake as well as the
Commercial Superintendent of Railways Vijaya Samarasinghe and Colombo
Fort Railway Station Superintendent Nimal Wijesinghe were among the
gathering present at this occasion.
