MP released on bail

Gampaha District Parlimentarian Sarana Gunawardane and four others were enlarged on bail by Gampaha High Court Judge M.M.A. Gafoor yesterday. After considering the bail application and the submissions made by the counsel, the High Court Judge released the four suspects on Rs.5,000 cash bail each and personal bail of Rs. 100,000 each.

State Counsel Jude Nanayakkara on behalf of the Attorney General did not object on the suspects being released on bail and submitted that investigations had already concluded. Four suspects, MP Sarana Gunawardane, Jayalath Nawaratne, Nalaka Sanjeewa and Nishantha Mirihagalla were arrested on the charges of abducting a 12-year boy, assaulting a person with a fire arm and causing him injuries. The suspects were later remanded.

Prasanna Lal Alwis, P.A.P. Weeraratne, Kithsiri Weerasuriya, Ranil Karipperuma, Chamara Wanigasekera appeared for the suspects.

Jude Gunawardane appeared for the Attorney General.
