CMA conference to coincide with ICMA launch

The CMA International Business Management Conference 2009 will coincide with the launch of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICMA) incorporated by an Act of Parliament No. 23 of 2009.

Accounting history was created after 50 years since the incorporation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka in 1959 when another professional accounting body was incorporated by an Act of Parliament for the Management Accounting Profession.

This is a proud occasion for Sri Lanka as we now have both Professional Chartered and Management Accounting bodies similar to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and could now play an important role in the development of the economy in Sri Lanka and providing Management Accountants to the Public and Private Sectors, a CMA release said.

The theme of the International Conference is 'Managing for Success in a Downturn'.

Leading speakers from South Asian countries will participate in this conference.

The management accounting topics as well as the business topics which are of practical importance to members and non members will be dealt with.

The topics would cover Performance Management, Strategically Managing Risks, Corporate Governance and Directors Responsibilities and the experiences of business leaders in a downturn which will give a mix of professional and business ideas to be intermingled. The details of each session are given in the program.

Eminent speakers-local and overseas will address the international conference.

The keynote address on 'Performance Management in a Downturn' will be made by Director Post Graduate Institute of Management (PIM) Dr. Uditha Liyanage and 'Ethical Corporate Governance and Compliance' will be made by Director General Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka Channa de Silva.

The other topics are "Strategically Managing Risks for Survival" and Managing in a Downturn, business perspectives.
