Dengue eradication campaign:
‘Those who fail to respond will be prosecuted’

Residents of Colombo, who fail to respond positively to the Dengue
eradication campaign will be prosecuted in a court of law from June 1,
Colombo Municipal Commissioner and Competent Authority Bhadrani
Jayawardane said.
She was addressing the inaugural ceremony launching two week house to
house Dengue eradication campaign held at CMC premises yesterday.
The program was launched with the support of the group comprising
Municipal Council staff, members of the United Nurses’ Union, members of
the voluntary organizations and the Community Police.
Public awareness to prevent mosquito breeding is essential and the
above campaign is aimed at educating masses and providing necessary
instructions to all who are related with the issue, Jayawardane said.
“This is a unique program where every individual will be required to
play a vital role to save the life of another”, she urged public
support.
Explaining the procedure of these visits,Dr. Kariyawasam said that
Six municipal districts have been identified for this campaign and 27
areas as most potential areas for mosquito breeding.
Dr. Kariyawasam said about three representative from the CMC, United
Nurses’ Union and voluntary organizations will inspect each house with
the resident’s permission. After inspection, a sticker will be pasted on
the wall of houses according to the stipulated measures of the CMC.
United Nurses’ Union Precedent Ven. Muruththettuve Ananda Thera said
the members of his union will give its full support for this national
drive without any hesitation. Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry
Secretary Athula Kahandaliyanage also spoke. |
