Victory sets example to entire World – Information and Media Minister

Information and Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa yesterday said Sri Lanka has been able to eradicate LTTE terrorism setting an example to the entire world due to the dynamic leadership given to the three Armed Forces by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Minister commenting on the great victory achieved by the Armed Forces in the North said we could successfully won the battle against LTTE terrorism and avoid the humanitarian crisis as the President handed over this task to capable persons like Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the Commanders of the three Armed Forces.

The Minister said so many former Presidents attempted to settle this issue through negotiations or military means. But all their attempts were failed miserably. But the proper leadership given by President Rajapaksa to the three Armed Forces could eliminate terrorism by setting an example to all democratic countries who have engaged in defeating terrorism.

Meanwhile, our valiant soldiers through their humanitarian mission displayed to the entire world that they are the most disciplined Army in the world. Our Armed Forces could rescue the lives of over 200000 civilians who were in the clutches of the LTTE.

The most admiring feature of this mission was to rescue the lives of these civilians with minimum casualties without providing any room to create a humanitarian crisis.

The Minister said at present the countries worldwide have extended their fullest support to the Government towards its efforts to defeat terrorism.

The Government has clearly explained the current situation to India as well. As a result, India has fully endorsed the efforts made by the Government to eradicate terrorism.

The people have extended a resounding support to the Government to defeat terrorism.

The most of the Opposition political parties attempted to tarnish the image of the Government by spreading various rumours. But all their attempts were failed and the people gave a resounding mandate to the Government to defeat terrorism in all the recently concluded elections.

Therefore, the great victory achieved by our Armed Forces is an example to the entire world. It will help uphold the democratic traditions and prosper the country’s economic growth, the Minister added.
