Bronze for Lankans at Dhaka open

Sri Lanka ‘B’ team defeated ‘A’ team in the third place play off game to win (2-0) the bronze medal at the Dhaka Open Beach Volleyball Championship which concluded in Bangladesh yesterday. Australia won the C’ship beating Thailand in the final also in straight sets. Sri Lankan duo in the ‘B’ team Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala who were placed ninth at the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour in Thailand has improved heavily to over come the Asia’s fifth placed Lankans Dhammika Silva and Pubudu Ekanayake.

Though both Lankan teams qualified for the semis failed to reach the final when they were beaten by strong teams from Australia and Thailand.

It was a hard battle but they managed to stretch their opponents to the maximum of three sets before going down in the semis.

Their achievements in Dhaka proved the Lankan Beach Volleyballers have made strong bid to became the top team in the Asian Region in the near future. BP
