Civilian Bravery Award

The 16th National Civilian Bravery Awards Ceremony - 2009 organised by the Foundation for Civilian Bravery will be held on June 11, 2009 at the BMICH Colombo.

Ambassador of Switzerland in Sri Lanka Ruth Flint will be the Chief Guest.

Eminent persons including former Vice President of International court, Justice C.G. Weeramanthri will also participate.


Cattle to be released for Poson

Dehiwela YMBA will release over 100 heads of cattle to mark Poson Full Moon Poya Day which falls on June 7.

Last year too several heads of cattle brought to the slaughter houses, were released at the YMBA premises in Dehiwela and handed over to dairy farmers. The YMBA requested those interested in this act to contribute to the Dehiwela YMBA.


Founder's Day

The Founder's Day, an annual event of the All Ceylon Union of Muslim League Youth Fronts (ACUMLYF) will be held on May 16, 2009 at 3.00 pm at the Muslim Ladies' Study Circle Auditorium, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.

Resettlement and Disaster Relief Minister Rishard Bathiudeen will be the Chief Guest. ACUMLYF National President Rasheed M. Imthiyaz will preside.

Digamadulla District MP A.M.M. Noushad will speak on ' The Future of Eastern Province'.

The official website of ACUMLYF will also be launched and the awarding of scholarships for higher studies and donating sewing machines for self employment will also be held.


Ahadhiyyah Final Examination

The Department of Examinations will hold the Ahadhiyyah Final Examination - 2008 on May 23 and 24, 2009.

Admission cards have been posted by the Examinations Department to Ahadhiyyah Schools.

Ahadhiyyah Schools which have not received the Admission Cards on time should contact the Department of Examinations or the General Secretary of Central Ahadhiyyah.


Blood donation Camp

A blood donation campaign to assist Security Forces in the North organised by the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority will be held at No. 100, Kandawale Road, Ratmalana on May 15 under the patronage of Chairman Major General Tilak Ponnamperuma.


Productivity seminar

An exclusive seminar on personality development and 5S vision organized by the productivity development committee of St. Lawrence's Convent will be held on May 16 at 8.30 to 11.30 a.m.

It will be held to enlighten parents and past pupils on how to enhance the productivity of the family and how develop the standard of education and extra curricular. The program will be conducted by Chandana Gunawardena.


Free Diabetics blood test

Free HbAIC Blood test for only 30 Diabetics will be held on May 15. Also included is a free test report assessment and presentation on Diabetes Management. Call 4700700


Korean grant for IDPs

The Government of the Republic of Korea has granted US$ 500,000 to Sri Lanka through the World Food Program responding to UN and the Sri Lankan Government's requests.

The Korean aid will meet the immediate needs of the Internally Displaced Persons.


New Bishop for Kurunegala

Bishop Harold Anthony Perera has been appointed the new Bishop of Kurunegala by Pope Benedict the XVIth. He succeeds Bishop Raymond Peiris who has resigned as Bishop of Kurunegala.

Bishop Harold Anthony Perera was serving as Bishop of the Galle Diocese before his present appointment, according to a media release by the Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka.


Families Day highlights mother’s role

Mothers play a critical role in the family, which is a powerful force for social cohesion and integration. The mother-child relationship is vital for the healthy development of children. And mothers are not only caregivers; they are also breadwinners for their families. Yet women continue to face major and even life-threatening-challenges in motherhood,” said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in a message to mark International Day of Families which falls today.
