Cheliyan killed

The Security Forces yesterday confirmed that the second in command of the LTTE's naval wing Cheliyan was killed during a confrontation with the Forces at Karayanmullivaikal.

According to Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara, he was killed by troops during a confrontation to take control of the earth bund erected by the LTTE at Karayanmullivaikal to delay the Security Forces advance. To

Nanayakkara said the intelligence officials have revealed that Chelyan was among the killed during this confrontation that began on May 07.

"Chelyan is a resident of Trincomalee and was the mastermind of several attacks carried out by the LTTE on naval craft," he said.
