JWT wins gold and other awards
JWT was crowned five times with gold, three silver and four bronze
awards at the Chillies 2009 plus the biggest ever award of the Chillies,
the Best of Show.

JWT also took away gold in the campaign of the year, non-traditional
media. The clearing of five gold and the Best of Show is a record for
any agency taking part at the Chillies. JWT was not among the major
honours in the last two years but fired a convincing gain this year to
sweep metals in all three categories.
“The true winners of awards are our clients who have the guts to
approve and believe in the work we do. To us awards are only justified
once a brand has benefited from our work,” Chief Executive Officer, JWT
Thayalan Bartlett.
In 2006 JWT was a clear winner with 27 awards but a last minute
change in the point system saw victory elude them. Misfortune struck
twice as JWT missed being agency of the year for the second time in the
short history of the Chillies as it succumbed to the new point system
this year too.
“What one must know about the new point system is that when you are
obsessively focused on simply winning “agency of the year” you lose out
on doing brilliant work because average work with a finalist ranking
could add points to make you No. 1.
In effect “you win points but you lose gold,” Thayalan said.
“The Chillies is about recognizing excellence and raising the bar. If
this is to stay true it’s important to stay focused on ideas and work
that bring this to life. I’m very happy that we did justice to ourselves
by entering 23 pieces of our best work and winning 13 metal awards,”
Vice President and ECD Chandini Rajaratnam said.
