Vesak in Kelaniya

The Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha in collaboration with the Kiribathgoda Suhada Eksath Welanda Sangamaya has made arrangements to celebrate Vesak in the Kelaniya area on a grand scale by conducting special religious ceremonies on May 8 and 9.

Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera said the PS has made arrangements to conduct a Vesak lantern competition at its premises on May 8, 9 and 10.

Houses, State buildings, private institutions, schools, temples and shops along either side of the Colombo-Kandy road between Peliyagoda and Kiribathgoda junction will be decorated with Buddhist flags, lanterns and bulbs.

On Vesak day, sil campaigns, Buddha poojas, Dhamma desanas and meditation programs will be held in every temple in the area including the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and Vidyalankara Maha Pirivena at Peliyagoda.

A special pinkama will also be held at the YMBA Kelaniya including a series of dhamma desanas, meditation, Dhamma discussions and Bodhi poojas at its headquarters at Kiribathgoda, Kelaniya on Vesak Poya day.

An ice cream dansala organised by the People's Bank, Kelaniya Branch Manager Chandana de Silva and staff will be held on May 9 at 6.30 p.m. at the Kelaniya branch premises at Dalugama, Kelaniya for the third consecutive year.
