A group of Sri Lankan philanthropists employed in the State of Qatar
have set up a Welfare Society under the guidance of Ambassador for Sri
Lanka in Qatar Wijesiri Padukkage.
The main objective of setting up of this society is to give a helping
hand to Sri Lankan employees who are faced with problems.
“There are nearly 120,000 Sri Lankan workers in the State of Qatar.
There is no one here to help them in their problems. Some are faced with
problems such as harassment, detention and inability to return to Sri
Lanka.
Our Society offers to help the needy. When we put forward this
proposal to the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Qatar, he agreed to assist us
to make this effort a success. The office of our Society is housed in
the Embassy”, Welfare Society President Duminda Bulathsinhala said. The
Welfare Society is named The Sri Lankan Helping Hand Society.
Bulathsinhala, a resident of Melsiripura is employed as a Landscaping
Manager in a Luxury Hotel in Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar.
