Muslim Council distributes food parcels
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka, in cooperation with the mosques in
Vavuniya began preparation and distribution of food parcels to the Wanni
IDPs since Tuesday. The food is cooked in Vavuniya and 2,500 parcels
were distributed of which 1,500 came as contributions from the residents
of Vavuniya. The number of parcels would be increased today depending on
the availability of provisions. A field office of the MCSL has been
established at the Pattanichipuliyan Kulam Jummah Mosque to coordinate
our relief activities in the Wanni.
The MCSL plans to prepare and distribute 10,000 meals per day which
would cost approximately. Rs. 700,000. All Sri Lankans are encouraged to
make their contributions as there is an urgent need to feed thousands of
IDPs.
In addition to contributions from local Muslims, the Muslim diaspora
has also come forward to support this cause and many mosques in London
are expected to collect funds. Contributions could be sent by account
payee cheque drawn in favour of The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka Relief
Account and sent to MCSL at # 5, Manthri Road, Colombo or deposited to
