Visitors meet Opposition parties

The visiting British and French Ministers, David Miliband and Bernard Kouchner met with several Opposition politicians yesterday evening at hotel Cinnamon Grand in Colombo.

The two foreign dignitaries met with a UNP delegation which included Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, his deputy Karu Jayasuriya MP and other UNP MP's Ravi Karunanayake and Lakshman Kiriella.

They also met Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauf Hakeem and Tamil National Alliance Leader, R. Sampanthan. Speaking to the media soon after their brief meeting Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he had got a first hand assessment of the situation in the Vanni from the two foreign dignitaries.

However, he did not comment more on the details he was reffering to.

TNA Leader R. Sampanthan too told media that he had a fruitful discussion with the two visiting dignitaries. He said that he had voiced concern with regard to the safety of civilians still trapped in the 'safe zone'.
