Ecuador for transparent elections
ECUADOR: The Nat-ional Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador guaranteed
transparency of the April 26 general elections, and rejected possible
fraud during the process.
We have done our best for these elections to be transparent, without
any suspicion of fraud, CNE vice president Carlos Cortes stated Friday.
I disregard statements by candidates to the presidency of the
Republic that suspect the work by Intermediate Vote-Counting Boards.
The aim of those commissions, created by the electoral entity, is to
speed up vote counting, because they are responsible for the
digitalization and analysis of the voting process carried by the
Vote-Receiving Boards, Cortes stressed.
The CNE vice president also said that those elections will have a
surveillance committee, comprised of members from political parties and
movements, which will work as observers and could be present during
polls.
Voting is expected to start at 07:00 (12:00 UTC) Sunday, and three
hours after elections end, the Council could deliver results, with
nearly 50 percent of counting boards to elect the president of the
Republic, he noted.
More than 10 million Ecuadorians will elect tomorrow the president
and vice president, 118 assembly members, 48 prefects and vice prefects,
221 mayors, and 1,581 municipal councillors.
