CSF clinch Division II Title
BERNARD PERERA
Civil Security Force won the Division II soccer championship
organised by Football Federation of Sri Lanka when they defeated
Moragasmulla Sports Club by two goals to nil in the final played at CR
and FC ground yesterday.
CSF got to the lead in the fifteenth minute through a goal scored by
Prasad Lakshitha. They held onto the lead till the lemons. Though CSF
was in front the Rajagiriya boys fought gallantly to halt the goal
hungry strikers. It was Moragasmulla SC's custodian and the defenders
who played a vital role during the first half. At the same time they
also went on the attack.
The defence and the midfielders fed the strikers well but they failed
to capitalise on these by not doing the finishing touches well to score
for the Rajagiriya team.
The second half too was well fought by both teams while the
Rajagiriya team missed two golden chances to score. This failure cost
the game for them. With just a minute left for the final blow Udaya
Madusanka's kick from right wing saw them get the goal to go as winners
in the final 2-1.
Both teams qualified to move to the Division One Championship next
season.
The winners received the trophy and a cash award of Rs. 100,000 from
former President FFSL Gamini Randeni who was the chief guest at the
final. The runners-up too received a cash award of Rs. 50,000.
