Bee honey project in Uva
The joint project undertaken by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd and the UNDP to
develop the bee honey industry in the Uva Province will be launched at
the Keppettipola Economic Centre at Bandarawela on April 28, 2009 at
10.00 am.
The Chief Guests will be the Governor of the Uva Province Nanda
Mathew and the Uva Province Minister of Agriculture.
Sarvodaya legal committees

The District Coordinator of Sarvodaya Legal Movement Sunil Wijeratne
said that the organisation has established 15 legal committees for
enhancing the legal awareness of the rural public of Matale district.
The Coordinating Secretary said in 2008, these committees had been
able to settle 51 complaints through dialogue with the contending
parties, with the guidance of the committees.
Many of them are domestic issues, ranging from domestic violence,
land disputes, simple assaults, which had developed due to ignorance of
the law.
In addition to mediating in settling issues of the public, the
movement carries out programs for educating the public. Such committees
were established at Rattota, Dambulla, Ukuwela, Laggala and Moragolla,
he said.
Father of six drowns

A 49-year-old father of six who was under influence of liquor,
drowned in Wemedilla reservoir in Galewela Police division when he was
bathing.
The deceased was identified as G.G. Bodhipaksa, a resident in
Welamitiyawa area.
The Galewela Police is investigating.
Slain by nephew

A 39-year-old woman was shot dead by her nephew in Siyambalawewa area
in Sigiriya Police division.
The dead woman was Gamagedera Yasomenika, a resident in the same
area.
After this incident, the suspect fled away with the weapon.
Sigiriya Police are conducting investigations.
Unity is strength

Civil defence committees have been doing a great service with a great
dedication and understanding to face the grave situation the country
faced. They have rendered this service because of their patriotism, said
the Inspector of Police Rattota, addressing the members of the Civil
Defence Committee at a seminar held at Rattota.
Spouses of the bereaved families of the war heroes, and their close
relatives too attended the seminar.
Speaking further, the Inspector of Police recalled a story from the
Jathaka tales, where a cluster of birds got caught by a hunter just
because they were not united.
Remedy SLTB bus snags

Pedestrians and vehicle drivers are facing problems due to SLTB and
private buses picking up passengers in all sections of the road in the
Ampara District.
Different rates too are changed and tickets too are not issued.
Office workers and students are also inconvenienced by buses stopping
over long periods both at Karaitivuand Hijra Junction.
Two dengue patients die

Two dengue patients died at the Matara General Hospital recently.
The Victims were Rashmika - Vidushan (5) of Beliatta-Tangalle and
Dinusha Wijeweera (11) of Idipokuna-Tangalla. There are five more dengue
casualties in Matara General Hospital according to hospital sources. |
