Pepper on 500 acres at Alawwa

Alawwa Agrarian Services Centre has decided to cultivate pepper on 500 acres at Udagankanda, Abbowa and Bowala in the Alawwa Divisional Secretariat area.

The farmers of the respective villages too are being encouraged to cultivate more pepper in these areas, said the North Western Agriculture, Minor Irrigation, Agrarian Development Minister Shantha Bandara.

The Wayamba Development Bank has planned to supply loan and quality seeds, agro chemicals, fertiliser, to improve the living standard of the rural people under Mahinda Chintana program.

Minister Shantha Bandara said a marketing centre is also to be constructed at Boyawalana for purchasing their products and planned to develop home garden agriculture to meet the requirement of food crops for domestic consumption.
