China donates Rs. 2 million as emergency relief

China has donated Rs. 2 million to the Government of Sri Lanka as emergency relief assistance to civilians who had fed the LTTE.

In a letter to Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama Chinese Ambassador Yang Xiuping stated, "Impressed by your briefing on April 23, 2009 about the emergency humanitarian situation caused by the unexpected influx of large numbers of people to the cleared areas in short period of time, I have the honour to inform you that the Chinese Embassy has decided to donate two million Sri Lankan Rupees (Rs. 2,000,000 only) to the Sri Lankan Government as emergency relief assistance to the civilians. It is my sincere hope that this donation will be helpful to the Government's relief efforts. "It will be highly appreciated if you could provide the details of the bank account for this purpose.

"I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to you, Hon. Minister, the assurances of my highest consideration.
