Matara relief to IDPs

Relief food supplies collected from traders, civil societies and philanthropists from Matara area will be despatched to the people liberated from LTTE terrorists by Wednesday, Matara Mayor and SLFP Organiser Upul Nishantha said.

These food items include dry rations, drinking water together with clothes and sanitary items needed for these displaced people temporarily sheltered in the Vanni.

A preliminary discussion with regard to the collection and distribution of these relief supplies was held at the District Secretariat, Matara last Friday under the patronage of District Secretary W. K. K. Athukorale, Mayor and Municipal Councillors.

At this discussion, it was decided to further enlighten the business community and philanthropists on this relief program which is being implemented under the guidance of Minister of Transport Dullas Alahapperuma.
