A police constable who was on civil duty at Dalada Maligawa has
returned a lost handbag containing cash Rs. 450,000 to a woman who has
left it in the flight of stairs that leads to the balcony of the
Maligawa’s Ihala Maalaya.
Police Constable 15331 Punchihewage Ajith who found the handbag full
of cash with local currency and Euros returned it to its owner A.A.
Rukmali Adhikari who was in tears after losing her bag with cash and the
passport .
Rukmali visited Maligawa on Sunday (19) with her husband W. A. Dinesh
Priyadarshana to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha
after returning from Italy. She is a resident of Medawala, Badalgama.
She rushed to Maligawa police post upon finding that her handbag was
missing with all her hard- earned money.
”She could not recollect where she had left her hand bag in the
Maligawa premises,” PC Ajith said.
”I found a white handbag lying on the stairway to the Pattiruppuwa (
balcony),” he said.
”I brought it to the office at Pahala Maalaya (downstairs) and kept
it to be returned to the owner.
I was happy to hand it over to the owner,” he added.
Rukmali’s husband Priyadarshana when contacted by the Daily News
said, the bag was returned to them by the police and they were very
happy. |
