Committee to look into Golden Key assets

Finance and State Revenue Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told Parliament yesterday that the Government has appointed a special committee to look into the assets of the Golden Key company.

The Minister was responding to an adjournment motion moved by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake.

The Government has already formulated a special program enabling the financial institutions to function without any collapse.

The Minister said the collapse of the financial institutions will badly affect the economy. This situation will also create unnecessary panic among depositors rushing to withdraw their money.

Therefore, the Government through the Central Bank will intervene to safeguard financial institutions.

"We have also planned to provide direct support to such institutions through a set of incentives," he added.
