Attack on Lankan Embassy in Oslo:
Norway condemns
Immediately after the attack on the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oslo on
April 12, 2009 the Norwegian Government strongly condemned and regretted
the incident.
"The Police have strengthened the security at the premises. Norway
understands that the attack has upset many people in Sri Lanka, and our
Foreign Affairs Minister has personally conveyed his regrets through the
Sri Lankan Embassy in Oslo," the Norwegian Embassy stated in a release.
Norway will compensate the Sri Lankan Government for the damages done
to the property of the Sri Lankan Embassy. The Norwegian police are
giving the investigation of the attack the highest priority, and the
police are doing everything they can to bring the culprits to justice,
the release added.
"Norway has a long-standing friendship with Sri Lanka, and all our
efforts have been to work for peace within a united Sri Lanka. All
attention must now be directed towards the precarious situation for the
civilians trapped in the conflict zone, and to end the fighting without
further bloodshed," it said. |
