Seetha Devi Sports Club 'A' and 'B' teams emerged joint champions
among women's clubs while Peradeniya University team and Old Kingswood
Sports Clubs won the Men's Joint Championship at the Kandy District
Seven-a-Side Hockey Tournament conducted by the Kandy District Hockey
Association on Sunday 2009 at the Police grounds.
In the Women's semi-finals, Seetha Devi Sports Club 'A' beat St.
Anthony's Girls SC by one goal to nil and Seetha Devi SC 'B' beat
Pushpadana SC by one goal to nil to enter the finals.
In the Men's semi-finals Kingswood SC beat Green Park SC by 2 goals
to 1 and Peradeniya University beat Old Vidyartha SC by 1 goal to nil to
enter the finals. Chief guest at the opening ceremony was the Secretary
of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation Gamini Jayasinghe (ASP Prison
Department) and the guests of honour at the finals were the Regional
Chairperson of the Lions Club Grandpass Lion Gration Fernando and
Superintendent of Kandy Prison Gamini Kulatunga. M/s Tissa Jayasinghe
(ASP Prison) A. Maheshwaran (President Kandy District Hockey
Association) K. Nadaraja (Treasurer of the Kandy District Hockey
Association), J. Thangavelu (former President KDHA) and Kelum Shathasiri
(Chief Sports Officer - KMC) were also present.
