Coop cities make record earnings - Minister
Nadira GUNATILLEKE
The Government strongly believes that all three sectors, private,
State and cooperative, are of equal importance in the National economy.
It was the President's accurate and far sighted economic policy which
strengthened the Sri Lankan economy which hardly felt the impact of the
global economic crisis, Trade, Marketing Development, Cooperatives and
Consumer Services Minister Bandula Gunawardena said.

Information Department Auditorium yesterday.
Some Coop-cities earn over Rs.400,000 per day. There are 363
coop-cities all over the country now. There are 103 Lak Sathosa outlets.
The UNP completely destroyed Sathosa and cooperatives.
The people can celebrate New Year this year as prices of almost all
food items have been reduced, the Minister said.
Minister Gunawardena said only eight to 10 percent of the total
number of consumers buy goods from supermarkets. "It will not be a
surprise if some supermarkets are forced to close in the future because
of the high competition they face with the State sector economic centres,
Lak Sathosa outlets and Coop-cities," he added.
