Bolivia calls to end US blockade
Bolivia: Bolivian President Evo Morales announced on Wednesday the
presentation of a draft resolution in the coming Fifth Summit of the
Americas to demand the end of the US blockade against Cuba.
According to Morales, before going to the meeting, scheduled for mid
April in Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia will discuss the proposal with
member countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our
Americas that are expected to attend the meeting (Venezuela, Nicaragua,
Honduras and Dominica.) "We intend to get a joint stance of
anti-colonialist, anti-imperialist and anti-neoliberal governments,"
explained Morales in a press conference at the Quemado Palace.
He said the initiative calls for the immediate end to the unilateral
economic, commercial and financial measures imposed by Washington on
Cuba since February of 1962.
"Only in this way can we re-install in the Americas the spirit of
respect of countries' sovereignty and the recognition of international
law, particularly related to humanitarian issues," said Morales in
remarks to foreign journalists accredited here.
The Bolivian president recalled the 17 resolutions approved in the
United Nations calling for the US lifting of the blockade against Cuba,
the latest backed by 185 states and rejected by only three countries in
October last year.
"President Barack Obama should listen to the world," he said. La Paz,
