ICRC President visits Sri Lanka
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Jakob
Kellenberger visited Sri Lanka on April 7. on the invitation of Foreign
Minister Rohitha Bogollagama. He was accompanied by Head of Operations
for South Asia Jacques De Maio.
The ICRC President called on Minister Bogollagama in Colombo on
Tuesday and discussed several aspects of ICRC activities in Sri Lanka.
The Minister conveyed the Government's appreciation to the ICRC for its
cooperation and assistance to the Government in dealing with the
humanitarian situation in the North.
Water scheme
A new water supply scheme is to be implemented in Harasbedda in the
Walapane Divisional Secretariat area.
The Ministry of Nation Building has set aside Rs. 5 lakhs for the
project. This scheme will benefit 500 families in the Harasbedda
village.
Mini cyclone
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said a mini cyclone was
reported from the Ihalapuliyankulam area in Puttalam on Wednesday
evening.
Following heavy rains and a thunderstorm people had experienced a
mini cyclone in Sooriyawewa, Ihalapuliyankulam area in the Puttalam
district at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. RJ
New Year anointing ceremony
The National New year anointing ceremony will be held at the historic
Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya on April 15 at 7.32 a.m. under the
patronage of Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda, a press
